Clark County, Illinois — Sometimes citizens can be so frustrated with county board members they wish someone could just place them under arrest. Well, that is exactly what citizens in Clark County, Illinois did.
Illinois’ number one manufactured product is corruption. More than 95 percent of the Illinois legislature is safe in gerrymandered districts. The incumbent governor has three current federal investigations of his administration, but the Attorney General/state’s attorney class can’t find public vice anywhere.
Residents that voted in the recent election said they are hoping officials have learned from the past mistakes of others.
So what can the law abiding citizen do? The answer is coming from some regular guys in southern Illinois who decided to hold public officials accountable. They call themselves the “Watchdogs.”
Kirk Allen and John Kraft — two military veterans — live in Edgar County which just might be the most corrupt county in the country. For a couple of watchdogs, it’s a target rich environment.
In an effort to take back their government from self-serving politicians and bureaucrats, Kraft and Allen established a group called the Edgar County Watchdogs. Through a combination of public pressure, Freedom of Information filings, lawsuits, and media exposure, they have created a system that deeply threatens Illinois’ corrupt, entrenched political establishment. They operate a blog called Illinois Leaks that exposes corruption at the state and local levels. The blog is so popular that, it is trusted more than the local paper.
Considering the fact that, according to Forbes, their home county’s government has racked up over $79 million in debt all on its own while serving only 18,000 residents, Kraft and Allen have their work cut out for them.
By relentlessly pursuing justice for even the smallest infractions by bureaucrats and politicians, the Edgar County Watchdogs have driven 102 public officials to resign from their posts, including 33 officials in Edgar County alone. The pair busted the mayor of Redmond for attempting to hold office while living out of town. They represented themselves in court and beat Illinois Assistant Attorney General Emma Steimel in a lawsuit seeking access to state e-mails. Officials who have resigned due to the Watchdogs’ efforts include a property tax assessor, the Edgar County board chairman, an entire airport board and its manager, the attorney for Kansas Township’s fire department, Shiloh’s superintendent of schools, and Effingham’s health department administrator, among others. After they exposed corrupt, illegal, and self-serving spending habits by the Ford-Iroquois County health department, the entire bureaucracy was dissolved. In some cases, federal agents have even stepped in to investigate and issue subpoenas to local officials after receiving tips from Kraft and Allen.
Public boards are used to facing angry crowds, but most have never encountered what happened at one recent meeting in central Illinois.
In what was one of their most epic displays of political crime-fighting, which was captured on video, Allen and Kraft held the entire Clark County Park District Board under citizen’s arrest on May 13, 2014, for violating the Illinois Open Meetings Act, a Class C misdemeanor.
When asked if there would be public comment, one of the board members said, “I vote no.” Followed by five other board members.
Board attorney, Kate Yargus, could be heard on video saying there would be no public comment that night, and told the board members they were “free to go,” even after Kraft’s citizen’s arrest announcement. She tried to cite statute to Kraft, but before she could finish, he said, “Just sit down, you are making yourself look like a fool.”
Deputies were dispatched to the scene, but instead, Clark County Sheriff, Jerry Parsley, personally responded that night. Parsley said he knew it was a heated situation and felt it would be best if he handled it. He said that Kraft handled the citizen’s arrest responsibly, and the board was definitely in violation of the Open Meetings Act by not allowing the public to speak.
“It’s not that they should have. They’re mandated to,” Parsley said. “The people need to have their voice. It’s not a dictatorship. It’s a democracy.”
The sheriff arrested six of the board members. The seventh board member was not arrested because he voted against the other members. As they were escorted out of the building, the crowd cheered.
The board had previously laughed at the watchdog group, calling them trouble makers; however, the Sheriff and the State Attorney’s Office didn’t see it that way.
Kraft said, “Every citizen, in every state, county, and city, should take note. Make sure their local government officials are working for the people, and not for themselves.”
A lawsuit against the board is still pending. Their next board meeting is scheduled for late November.
That is awesome. Can we franchise this watch dog group? I know a lot of people who would pay a lot of money to expand this to other cities/counties.

We need your help here in upstate New York in over turning several bad pieces of legislation and getting rid of a despicable governor (Mr. Cuomo) and his Democratic Party that has pas felon friendly laws at the expense of law abiding citizens and crime victims and members of the law enforcement community as well! We need more people who have the integrity and backbone to stand for what is right. This is supposed to be a “Republic”, NOT A DEMOCRACY. In a Republic all of the 99.9999% do not have the right to violate the rights of even one lone individual.
Exactly, sadly people truly do not understand the difference between a Democracy (which we are thankfully not) and a Republic (which we are supposed to be!)
The county I live in is in the middle of sorting out over $20 million in embezzled and misappropriated funds. The entire BoS was indicted for misfeasance and nonfeasance because they let things go through even when members of the public and a town council member kept asking questions. Everyone was told to shut up because we stood to lose a lot of money if these “great deals” didn’t go through.
After they were indicted they attempted to silently add an agenda item to have their defense attorney fees paid for by the county. People showed up and were very vocal against it so they punted the item.
A couple weeks later a group secured enough signatures to file a petition of recall against the BoS. This time the BoS had an emergency session with a single item on the agenda, having the county pay an attorney for each member to fight the recall. They scripted the whole thing and didn’t let the public speak.
Sadly in VA the open meeting laws require they allow the public to be present, but not to speak.
Fortunately earlier this month one of the council members was voted out of office by a landslide, still the remaining members continue to behave as if the county populace didn’t just make it clear we aren’t putting up with their garbage any longer.
I know all too well about corruption. Good on these folks for holding the elected accountable.

Our county’s DMV has zero oversight and is well known for their superior attitude, harassment and aggression. Maybe you can send info regarding the threat from the DMV employee to newspapers in all of your state’s counties, plus their supervisor and their supervisor at your state’s capital. Just and idea. If your life was threatened, and you have a copy of this. Report it to the police, even if the police do not follow up on it, you have a LEGAL record of the threat. If things escalate you keep adding police reports, trust me if you do it this way then when you decide to take legal action against them … You have LEGAL documentation of all threats etc

Okay I want to do that here. We have a utility co-op here in north central Arkansas that have actually made it a rule that they can’t be sued by any attorney representing a client on a contingency fee basis. So only a wealth person or an attorney working for themselves can sue them. They are FORCING a very toxic meter on me/us and I even have a letter of medical necessity from a UT grad medical doctor. The staff attorney told me in writing that I needed to prove to HER (not a doctor) that I have this ElectroMagneticSensitivity. THAT is a HUGE violation of ADA laws. There’s also a law Public Law 90-502 that says they can’t radiate the public with gadgets. smh Need to see how to do this action.
Most places will let you opt-out of the Smart meter, for a monthly fee.

You need to learn what the ADA actually DOES cover, not just what you think it does. Secondly, magnetic fields do not “radiate” people. If you have that sensitivity, you should learn about it.

I live in Eastern Washington — we try to vote out some of these people, but we are constantly over ruled by King and Pierce counties with their voting block.

We have the same thing happening in Oregon. Out of 36 counties 6 are dictating to the rest what will happen and yes, they too are changing the rules to silence We The People of Oregon. Those 6 counties hold the largest metropolitan cities and are heavily populated by Democrats, many recently moved here from out of state.
Our governor received campaign contributions from George Soros so that says a lot right there. Our state was the state whose Republican lawmakers staged a walkout last June / July to fight against laws that are (and still remain) detrimental to Oregonian citizens and businesses.
Oregon is the only state with a Democrat “Super Majority” and boy have they been busy changing the rules. They have voted in billions of dollars in new taxes last year (some by the new “Emergency Clause” Brown acquired like a magic wand) and are hell bent to pass what is Governor Browns “Legacy Legislation” next month that was avoided by the walk out last summer which is yet another billion dollar money grab, cash cow being touted as a “climate change” necessity. It is modeled after California’s own cash cow / slush fund. It is basically a “pay to play” allowing polluters to pay to continue to pollute.
Our governor refuses to listen to the people even when the overwhelming majority speak in opposition. She has vowed to pass all the bills we managed to successfully oppose last year including a bill to make owning or using a gun for self protection next to impossible. Basically saying “Hey, we didn’t take your guns, we just made it so you can defend yourself against the criminals we have allowed to go free at will.”
The Democratic party won the majority of the seats in the Virginia state legislature despite Republican gerrymandering. They also won governor, Lt. governor, and Attny. general in the previous election. So, actually, the politicians ARE responding to the voters. That you don’t happen to agree with the majority of voters is disappointing for you, but doesn’t mean there is anything they are doing wrong.

This is not happening just in your area of your state this is happening Nationwide. Legal kidnapping. There are no consequences for what they’re doing. A matter of fact it’s just the opposite they are paid extra for removing children from their parents home and getting them adopted, around $6,000. Forced adoption. Take away the monetary incentive and watch the rate of children’s removal drop dramatically. Use all that money to help the families instead of tearing them apart and see tremendous growth for the better in our entire society.

Now this is about the first time I’ve read where someone knew enough and had the guts to pursue to actually do the right thing. Although a small amount of correctness in a STATE (ILLINOIS) full of corruption we need to organise several people everywhere in every state it sounds like a totally legal approach to cleaning up the political system the sooner the better. We need to educate citizens on difference between democracy, and republic. Many don’t realize this ,but we are a republic. This gives citizens the rights to do what these men are doing. There are alot of issues that have become blurred because of the two kind of melding together. A democracy has more socialistic qualities. The city board in Clarkston Michigan did that one time. There was an issue they knew the people would not be got so they closed public comments off and made their vote. I thought that was wrong but didn’t know the legalities of it
We need to do this in El Paso, TX, infamous home of Beeto O’Rourke and the WalMart shot up in 8/2019 by the guy who drove 12 hours to “kill Mexicans.” Those of us who are older see our taxes go up and up every year. We protest it, but they don’t give a darn about the older folks who have worked their WHOLE LIVES without any government benefits. I was a 20-year HVAC worker and did a lot of Community Action work for weatherization programs for the cities of Anoka County, Minneapolis and Hennepin in Minnesota.
As a single mother I have been forced to the welfare office for temporary support. I understand they want to work on your resume but somebody with my background already has an awesome resume so I never understood why they made me take the class every time I went in when I could be searching for work. I always got out of it pretty quick because they’re not as willing to help someone like me and instead give it to people that don’t try so hard.
I once put a free furnace in a home that had to be worth at least a half a million. I struggled installing that furnace because I was so Furious and upset. I didn’t care text here why the homeowner got free equipment when they could have sold their home if they couldn’t afford it to install a furnace on their own funds.
I did several rental properties in Northeast Minneapolis area where the county had allowed the tenants of rental property qualify instead of the homeowners themselves. If you’re making income off of renter’s you should not be getting free equipment through the county.
North Minneapolis had us put a space heater in with counting money. we ended up having to run new gas lines and put a new chimney in because the old location would not have passed code. Several months later they had us come back and remove that space heater and install a 90% efficient furnace. We ended up having to abandon the chimney we just installed because a high-efficiency furnace is PVC vented. Instead of putting the equipment up in a walk-up attic with the they had us install the furnace in the dining room and run the duct above in the Attic. Then we were told to build a closet around the furnace. If they would have put the equipment in the walk-up attic there would have been no need for a closet being built. Not to mention that space heater was in our shop for at least a good year that I know of. Frivolous spending!!!
learned that the cities get so much money per year and if they do not use all the funds they will not get the same amount the following year and that’s why this was happening and probably still is.
I remember Minneapolis Community Action Program was shut down due to fraudulent activity with funding.
I guarantee every city around here is playing the same game.
I forgot to mention that some of the rental property is that was getting free equipment we’re duplexes. So landlords were getting free equipment are both sides of the duplex not just one.
I was just the HVAC part of things which is an expensive bill especially if you’re doing ductwork. Weatherization programs we’ll also install brand new windows, insulate the entire house, give them more efficient refrigerators and even light bulbs that are more efficient. They also required a bath fan to be installed and every single one of them. we’re talking big bucks!!!!
Unfortunately there is no provision in the NC statutes that allows for a “citizen arrest” in North Carolina. Because of that fact, if a citizen attempts to detain anyone can and probably would be arrested for kid napping. I love that this happened in Illinois but readers take head, you better known and be double sure of the laws in your particular state before you try something like this.
Love it! Bring some Watchdogs to Kentucky! FBI says its the most corrupt in the nation. Everyone here is scared to even say anything because they set you up to be arrested and be carried away by the corrupt system. Police are very corrupt along with the courts. There is no justice here in Kentucky.
They would be great if these watchdogs could train up people to go out and their local areas and do the same had been great if we’d a had that in Place here in Arkansas when the clintons resided here but those watchdogs may would have ended up dead like all those others who pursued the Clinton’s

Georgetown County in South Carolina is going through a similar situation. Research and freedom of information along with accountability has brought about change. Our county administrator and financial director, county attorney(son in law of administrator) procurement official retiring or resigning. We followed the money and the numbers do not add up. It can be done.

finally someone is calling the corruption what it is. The joke is always that the license plates are made by the past governors of the state. That is also a true statement (assuming that criminals are required to work)
I think the Registrar of Voters has a crucial role in every county in this country, Judicial Watch has shown many are deliberately not cleaning voter rolls as is required by law.
For example, LA County has 1.5 million names of people on its voter rolls who are dead, or have moved out of the county, or are not citizens, or are shown voting in more than one precinct, etc. This gives the Registrar the ability to set the stage for illegal voting that can (and does) sway elections.

I am not from your state but I applaude you for your efforts and I wish more people like you who aren’t afraid to help. For what I watched in cultures here( being nice)” it’s not what you know it’s who you know” and to be a whistle blower of truth there is blacklash and swept under the rug. So it’s hard for New comers of old school and culture acceptance. One day I wish I could meet you folks. Life experience in small town. Don’t get me wrong I am not bittersweet. But believe in honesty and children”s futures. Wis.

Can someone please explain to me how “One” state, Virginia, can override our1st and 2nd amendments to our United States Constitution?? Why is this rogue governor and his far – left cronies not being attacked by our federal judicial officials?

City officials in South Lake Tahoe are angering residents with a number of high handed activities along with their fawning attitude toward Verizon in conjunction with their obvious contempt for citizens who are trying to protect themselves from the widespread unregulated proliferation of Wireless Telecommunications Facilities (WTF) in their community.
At one meeting several months ago, after perhaps a half-dozen residents had spoken against WTFs, Mayor Jason Collin casually spoke to the effect that it seemed everyone was saying the same thing so their would be no more public comments. One asked out loud if it was legal and was told that public comments were just a courtesy.
At any rate, it seemed similar to the incident in Illinois where they decided to cancel public comments. I’m in California, but I would love to see a similar application of the law in Tahoe that Illinois citizens so ably demonstrated in the above described incident by the Watch Dogs. All Hail the Watch Dogs.

Try a wired ethernet connection and stop distracting from the point. You could argue that the electricity for that equipment is provided thru a smart meter and you would be right. But if that is what you are complaining about then thats where the corruption has taken over.

He lives in the county. Outside city limits.
The county is fine with it but they are letting the city control what they do and wants to force us under city rules also wanting to force property owners to give right of ways 30 feet on all sides of the property. Controlling what people do with their properties.

It is so so refreshing to see that if you fight “long and hard” enough to expose the EVIL within our local governments that JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED!!!! Thank God for men like this and I pray 🙏 we will see more of this throughout the country! WE HAVE TO SAVE OUR COUNTRY! 🎉 So MANY have fought and died for the freedoms so many take for granted!!!
